Global Foundation for Democracy and Development - GFDD
About Us
All countries are faced with the challenge of achieving prosperity in today’s world, something which is characterized by intense competition and rapid technological changes. It also relies on a technically-trained and highly-qualified workforce able to produce goods and services which require a high level of knowledge and added costs.  Tools to confront this challenge are scarce and technology and innovation are essential to ensure a feasible strategy.

The demands that are laid out by education ministries are steadily increasing and vary from day to day, so supply always appears to fall short. The needs and roles of schools and universities change and are diverse. Other state-run institutions continue to need different ways to distribute information, in order to implement the use of technology and to adapt the results of innovation.

A familiarity with technology is not just about assembling together computer parts for exportation. Although this generates highly technological exports, it is a low-cost and unskilled activity and so is unlikely to be to the advantage of national prosperity, nor will it improve a nation’s standard of living.

It is for this reason that collaboration should be strengthened and continued between the private sector, where innovation usually thrives, and centers which provide information and training. At Caribbean Virtual Educa 2007, we are going to tackle innovation in education by identifying new methods and innovations as tools for the sustainable development of countries. We will also look at leading exemplary cases. At Virtual Educa 2007, we are going to bring together experts who are in need of and offer such services. Caribbean Virtual Educa is aiming to act as a forum which facilitates unity, communication and collaboration between the different members of this sector.

The education and training of a nation has now made its way out of the classroom and can be experienced everywhere. Learning has no boundaries. If education used to play an important role in the development of countries, it is now vital.  The offer of education is growing exponentially and learning opportunities can be found everywhere. A nation now has to discover these opportunities and such an offer needs to address how to reach the population and make its contents accessible.

The approach of this new technical, educational and economic model has far-reaching implications in the outline of a successful strategy for the sustainable development and competitiveness of countries. The Caribbean Virtual Educa 2007 wants to explore this model and invites you to participate together with experts, government officials, the private sector and civil society to put forward feasible alternatives that facilitate the access to quality information so that as citizens, responsible and productive individuals, and the country as a whole, can face technological and economic challenges.
