Santo Domingo, March 5, 2009

Liz Romero, academic manager for Microsoft Multi Country Americas introduced the new innovative platform to be used in collaboration with schools, colleges and universities. The new platform will soon be available in the Dominican Republic, said Ms. Romero who explained the capabilities of the platform at the VI Virtual Educa Caribe Summit, an annual event sponsored by FUNGLODE y GFDD.

Liz Romero, academic manager for Microsoft Multi Country Americas introduced MicrosoftLive@edu, the new innovation and collaboration platform for schools, colleges and universities. The new platform will soon be available in the Dominican Republic, said Ms. Romero who outlined the capabilities of the platform at the VI Virtual Educa Caribe Summit.

In the presentation, attended by representatives from the public, private and NGO sector of Latin America participating in the forum, Romero explained that Windows Live Mail is the central element of the application which also includes a Microsoft email service.

The free platform, to be introduced in the DR in the coming months at the Madre y Maestra Catholic Pontifical University, was developed to broaden and render more efficient a wide range of academic tasks. It can only be used by teaching centers or schools.

Services offered to users include the possibility of virtually attending lecture panels, receiving electronic messages with a capacity of 5 gigabytes per account, up to a maximum of 10 gigabytes for attachments.

The Microsoft representative pointed out that the program also has a calendar which will keep members of the network aware of their colleagues’ commitments and availability, an important feature for an educational network.

Online chats and blog-writing are also part of the comprehensive network services, which will continue to be available to students even after they have completed their studies.
