Panel on the Use of Audiovisual Resources for Education
Santo Domingo, March 5, 2009
Virtual Educa Caribe 2009 continued its evening programming with the panel “Audiovisual Resources for Education,” given by such experts as Irene Hardy, Program Director for Updating Teachers on Education (AME) of the Cisneros Foundation and Omar de la Cruz, Director of Audiovisuals for FUNGLODE.
Hardy, who is also a professor at the Central University of Venezuela, presented the main characteristics of the AME program and showed some of the videos they have made.
AME, a continuing education and training program for working teachers, forms part of the Corporate Social Responsibility Program of the Cisneros Foundation. The program functions in 14 countries, including the Dominican Republic, through the National Institute for the Training of Teachers (INAFOCAM).
Through online courses, discussion forums and other mechanisms, they develop different class programs which are made into documentary videos that serve to complement what is being discussed in the classroom modules.
The films are transmitted by Canal Clase, or Class Channel, also part of the Cisneros Foundation. The videos are then uploaded onto the Foundation’s website at: http://www.ame.cisneros.org/
Omar de la Cruz, FUNGLODE’s Audiovisual Director described the work done by Fundación Global through the Institute of Global Multimedia (IGM) as an effort to train good professionals in the audiovisual field.
IGM is a tool to impart a better comprehension and appreciation of the audiovisual arts the general public.
De la Cruz mentioned the institutions that support the Institute’s efforts to develop and carry out their educational projects. Among those he mentioned are One Race Films, New York University, Daytona State College and the International School of Film and Television in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba.
Since its creation in 2006, IGM’s continuing education and training program has graduated 508 students from specialized courses while 1,080 participants have taken part in the many workshops offered.
