Dominican Republic To Host Virtual Educa 2010

The IV Virtual Educa Caribe 2009 Summit ended in an emotionally charged and enthusiastic atmosphere where it was announced that the Dominican Republic would be the host country of next year’s Virtual Educa 2010 Summit.
The closing ceremony was presided over by José María Antón, Secretary General of Virtual Educa; Ligia Amado Melo, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (SEESC&T) and current President of Virtual Educa Caribe 2009 and Jorge Rey Valzacchi, head of the Argentine chapter of the event.
Others included Iván Gullón, Academic Vice-Rector of the Autnomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) and Yamile Eusebio, FUNGLODE’s Program Coordinator for Educational Activities.
During the ceremony, Mr. Antón pointed out ways to involve new companies and to inspire and motivate them to continue learning and striving to be better citizens. “The Dominican Republic is working everyday on the future of education,” he said.
Later they showed a video from Argentina, this year’s host country for Virtual Educa 2009. Jorge Rey, Argentine representative, expressed his satisfaction with the event and extended a cordial invitation to meet again.
Ligia Melo Amado, Virtual Educa Caribe President, made the formal announcement that our country would be the headquarters of the Virtual Educa 2010 Summit to be celebrated from June 21-25 next year at the installations of the UASD.
Ms. Melo Amado explained that Virtual Educa is a wide-ranging summit in that it provides an opportunity for participants to learn in detail about what is happening around the world in terms of virtual technology for application in other countries.
She said the SEESC&T has trained 260 professors through e-learning programs. She also announced that soon there will be a course offered for 500 educators registered at the various departments of the UASD.
To end the meeting, Melo Amado thanked the 18 institutions who supported this Caribbean edition of the summit which brought together hundreds of people interested in learning about educational innovations and use of these new technologies.
